Third-seeded Marcos Baghdatis reached the second round of the Qatar Open with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber on Monday. Baghdatis had to contend with tough conditions on center court at the Khalifa Tennis stadium on the opening day of the tournament. "It was very cold and windy out there," Baghdatis said.

Sampras to play on over-30 tour (AP)
Pete Sampras will play tournament tennis for the first time since 2002, competing on a tour for players over 30, The Associated Press has learned. Sampras' Outback Champions Series debut, which will come May 2-6 at Boston University's Agganis Arena, is to be announced formally Tuesday.
